  1. Windows 11 not detecting any and all USB Storage drives whatsoever in Explorer but still...

I've been having a problem now where my PC will not detect any and all USB storage devices I plug into it whatsoever. I don't fully know what caused this but I guess it was related to me trying to install 24H2 and then going back after that kept failing. I also tried updating my motherboard an Asus ROG Strix Z-790-E Gaming Wifi Bios to version 2801. So my PC is pretty much back to normal except one problem, it won't read any and all USB storage devices. I have tried these same devices on other computers and they work great. The problem is that they just don't show up in Windows Explorer so I ca

  2. USB drive not detected in Windows Explorer when plugged in

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

It’s really strange to see that the D Drive is not showing up in file explorer, even though it’s listed under disk management and you are able to open D drive using the navigation bar.

In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these methods and check if that fix the issue.

Method 1: Restore File explorer to default.

    1. Open File explorer and click on View.
    2. Select on Options and click on Change folder and search options.
    3. Select on View tab and click on Restore Defaults.
    4. Click on OK and re-plug the USB and check.

    Method 2: Registry change

    1. Press Windows + R key to launch Run command. Type Regedit and click Ok.
    2. Navigate to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
    3. On the right pane look for D drive, right click on it and delete.
    4. Restart the PC and then re-plug the USB to check.

    Method 3: New user account

This issue may be due to a profile corruption. Hence, in order to eliminate possibilities, I would suggest you to create a new user account. Follow the steps from the article
Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
to create a new user account.

If issue persists, update chipset and storage drivers from

    HP manufacturer website
    .

  3. Mass Storage Drive is not getting detected under File Explorer option in Windows 10.

    Hello Alexandra,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We regret the inconvenience caused and apologize for the delay in response.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    • Is the drive visible under Disk management?
    • Does the drive get detected on connecting the same to another PC?

You may be facing the above issue due to some of the system components conflicting with Windows 10 operating system on the PC. Running the troubleshooter will help in detecting and identifying the issue and sometime will fix to enhance the performance
    of the system.

Method 1: I suggest you to run the
    Hardware and Devices
troubleshooter by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type troubleshooter and select the top most search result.
    • Click on View all from left side panel of the screen.
    • Select Hardware and Devices, click on Advanced
option and check Apply repairs automatically option.
    • Follow the on screen instructions.
    • Close the window after troubleshooting is completed and check if the changes are effective.

Method 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to check if the device gets detected under
Disk management by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
Disk management option from the context menu.
    • Check if WD Elements mass storage drive is visible in the window.
    • If visible, check if you can open the files in the
      File Explorer
by right clicking and selecting Open option form the context menu.

Write to us with the answers to the above questions and the status of the issue on the same post for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.

External USB Storage drive not detected in WIn10

HI Dave, just to be clear on this action you suggested , I open Disk Mngt and then select drive E (the last drive listed here) and Map this to drive F for example in order to see if PC will then detect the External drive as E. Is this correct ?
