My laptop volume cannot be adjusted from the Windows volume controls on the taskbar, or with volume keys. It's either mute or 100% volume with no in between. What sort of PC do you have? Laptop? Tablet? Desktop?
Laptops typically have a dedicated pair of Fn keys.

The requirement of pinning Volume mixer to the taskbar is currently not available in Windows 10. However, you can view Volume mixer from the volume control icon located in the system tray.



Before we assist further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

  Are you not able to see volume icon or the volume mixer on the computer?

  If volume icon, have you enabled the option to show in the system tray?
  

If you want to view Volume mixer on the PC and have enabled volume icon on the system tray, follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

  Open Volume Mixer from the context menu.

X-Fi only controls front speaker's volume.

It's definitely set to 4 channels and the Volume control is control panel are where they should although there are only two sliders. Shouldn't there be four?

Update on what I've figured out. If I go into the creative volume panel and adjust the "Wave" volume slider it adjusts all four speaker volumes but the "master volume" control for both windows and creative volume control panel only adjust the front two. Trashy and clunky. I want to get everything balanced and then have a true master volume control instead of having to adjust two volume controls every time I want to turn my music up or down.
