    Initialize a new SSD card

Hi. Does the windows installer initialize and format a new (unused) SSD card? I will be installing a 2TB SSD in my computer and am trying to avoid cloning etc. The 2TB SSD would be the only drive in my computer when it's installed. I am asking because I have come across conflicted information on whether or not the Windows installer (from a USB drive) initializes a new SSD card. Thanks for you answers!

    Initialize a new SSD card

    Hello John, this is Emily.

It sounds like you are going to perform a clean install on the SSD. In that case, there's no need to initialize it before you do so.

Go ahead and boot the computer up from the USB that contains the ISO, select install > custom install opton. At the step where it asks you where to install Windows, if you see one unallocated space on the SSD, choose that and continue. If you see multiple partitions, select each partition and use the delete option on that page. Do that one at at time until they are merged to one unallocated space, select that and continue.

Worth noting, if your computer already has another drive in addition to this SSD, you need to physicall disconnect that drive before you perform the above steps, unless you are planning on using dual boots.
