Windows 10: Whirring / 'boot-up' sound on repeat when CPU is not in use

    Whirring / 'boot-up' sound on repeat when CPU is not in use


    When my computer is turned on but not in use 'asleep', it makes a noise like it is starting up, then it repeats this noise every 10-15 seconds constantly. This can go on for a long time, several minutes.     Hi John Marco,

    I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    That indicates your fans are running at a very high speed, so, either your CPU or GPU is under pressure when that happens.

    Open Task Manger (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

    Select the processes tab.

    Leave that utility open to monitor your system

    When you hear that 'whirring' noise, look at the Processes tab, is the CPU or GPU at a very high percentage?

    If one of them is, click that column header so the arrow points down, then please provide a screenshot of that window.
