1. Windows 11 desktop PC - Sleep

When I try to put my PC to sleep manually, the screen turns off and if I move the mouse, it wakes back up without asking for my passcode. This just started happening as before it would ask for my passcode. Also, my RBG lights don't turn off so it's like it's not actually entering sleep mode. Any help would be appreciated.

:)

Windows 11 Desktop Won't Enter Sleep Mode

I upgraded to Windows 11 last fall (November) and for the most part everything has been working ok. Within the last month, I've had an issue where my desktop will not enter sleep mode. If I select sleep, my keyboard and mouse will shut off but my desktop will idle with the fan periodically cycling for about ten minutes before the desktop shuts off altogether. The only way I can turn my PC back on is by using the power button, which reboots the device.

There are two other issues that have started around the same time, which may or may not be related to the above:

• when I connect to my second monitor, a number of icon images on the start bar on the second monitor won't display
• a few times while using Google Chrome, my PC slows down considerably, the memory used by Chrome maxes out in Task Manager (and stays maxed out even when I shut Chrome off), and I am unable to see anything I type in any application I have open (not just Chrome) unless I alt-tab between applications - I have to restart for my PC to become usable
I've tried a number of suggestions related to fixing the sleep mode issue but none have worked for me so far. Here's what I've tried:

• Run the power troubleshooter
• Disabled my network adapter from waking the computer
• Using powercfg to disable processes that disrupt sleep mode
• Disabled fast startup
• Tried a clean boot and had the same issue
• Updated the latest drivers, Windows 11 updates, and BIOS version
• Disabled hybrid mode
• Scanned for viruses
• Ran system file checker and DISM tool
• Deleted the hiberfil.sys file
I have a X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming motherboard and AMD Ryzen 5 2600X CPU. Any thoughts or suggestions on other things to try would be much appreciated!

3. Windows 11 desktop PC will not sleep

Hi,

Problem

• Our desktop PC is functioning normally, but it will not sleep.
• The dual screens will switch off after 5 minutes (as set) and the PC tries to sleep after 10 minutes (as set). However, it immediately kicks back into life.
• Likewise, if I select sleep from the power menu (Start Power Sleep) our PC will try to sleep, but immediately kicks back into life.
Build Info

• Our desktop PC is a 64-bit PC running Windows 11 Home vsn 23H2 OS Build 22631.3085. It has the 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700K CPU with 64GB of DDR5 memory (four x 16GB G.SKILL Trident Z5) and the Intel UHD Graphics 770.
• All the latest drivers are installed including Intel Graphics Driver 31.0.101.5186 / 31.0.101.5234 (WHQL Certified).
• We have 2 users set up, both with Admin privileges.
Motherboard / BIOS Info

• Our Motherboard is an ASUS Prime Z690-A.
• The installed BIOS is vsn 3101 and the Intel ME is vsn 16.1.30.2307.
• I have run the Memtest86 memory test tool, and it didn’t find any issues.
• The USB Power Delivery in Soft Off State (S5) is set to Disabled (BIOS : Advanced Mode Advanced Onboard device Configuration).
• The Aura is set to Off when System is in sleep, hibernate or soft off states (BIOS : Advanced Mode Advanced Onboard device Configuration the LED Lighting).
• The Platform Trust Technology is set to Enabled (BIOS : Advanced Mode Advanced PCH-FW Configuration PTT).
• The OS Type is set to Windows UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) Mode (BIOS : Advanced Mode Boot Secure Boot).
• The AI Cooling is Disabled (BIOS : Advanced Mode Monitor Q-Fan Configuration).
• The APM (Advanced Power Management) settings are set to Disabled for Max Power Saving, ErP Ready, Power On By PCI-E and Power On By RTC. The Restore AC Power Loss is set to “Power Off” (BIOS : Advanced Mode APM Configuration).
• The PIC Express Native Power Management is set to Enabled and Native ASPM is set to Auto. (BIOS : Advanced Mode Platform Misc Configuration).
Armoury Crate

• I used the ASUS utility to uninstall Armoury Crate as I thought this may be causing the problem.
• Armoury Crate has been reinstalled (vsn 5.7.9.0) and the Shutdown Effect is set to Off (Device Prime Z690-A)
Windows Task Scheduler

• From the Windows-key, I typed Task Scheduler and then navigated to Task Scheduler (Local) > Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > UpdateOrchestrator. The Schedule Wake to Work” is disabled.
• I have checked every entry to ensure nothing is waking our PC.
Ethernet Controller

• Using Device Manager I have updated the Intel Ethernet Controller and set Disabled the “Wake on Magic Packet”, “Wake on Magic Packet From S5”, “Wake on Pattern Match” and “Allow this device to wake the Computer”.
Sound and Video

• Using Device Manager I have checked that all the “Sound, Video and Game Controllers” drivers do not wake our PC.
HP Print and Scan Doctor - HPPSD

• I Navigated to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Diagnostics and deleted everything associated with HPPSD.
• Using Windows “Task Scheduler” I deleted everything to do with HPPSD.
• Using Registry Editor (REFEDIT) I navigated to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services key and deleted the HPPrintScanDoctorservice.
• Rebooted the PC and using Task Manager checked the HPPrintScanDoctorservice is not running.
Legacy Kernel Caller

• From the Command Prompt I’ve run “powercfg –requests” sometimes it shows that Legacy Kernel Caller is running.
• from the Command Prompt I’ve run Powercfg -requestsoverride Driver "Legacy Kernel Caller" System to disable the Legacy Kernel Caller but this has had no effect.
System Maintenance

• From the Control Panel Security and Maintenance Maintenance Change Maintenance Settings I have checked that “Allow Scheduled Maintenance to wake my computer at the scheduled time” is not checked.
Multimedia Settings

• From the Control Panel Power Options Change Plan Settings Change Advanced Power Settings Multimedia Settings and checked that “When Sharing Media” is set to “Allow the computer to sleep”.
Power Plans

• From the Control Panel Power Options I have set the power plan to balanced and then navigated to Change Advanced Power Settings Sleep and set Allow wake timers set to disabled.
PCI Express Power Management

• From the Control Panel Power Options I have navigated to Change Plan Settings Change Advanced Power Settings PCI Express and checked that the Link State Power Management is set to off.
Registry Fix

• I navigated to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon and changed PowerdownAfterShutdown from 0 to 1
Event Viewer

• From the Command Prompt I’ve run eventvwr.msc. Then navigated to Windows Logs > System from the menu in the sidebar. Then when the log was displayed, selected Filter Current Log from the Actions menu. From the new window I went to Event sources and selected Power-Troubleshooter from the context menu. Looking at the entries they say “Wake Source: Unknown”
Windows Powercfg

• From the Command Prompt I have run Powercfg and confirmed the following

powercfg -restoredefaultschemesReset the power schemas

Powercfg /availablesleepstatesStandby (S3) is the only sleep state on our PC

Powercfg /waketimersThere are no active wake timers running on our PC

Powercfg -requestsThere are no processes preventing our PC from sleeping

Powercfg /requestsThere are no USB controllers preventing our PC from sleeping

Powercfg -devicequery wake_armedOnly our Mouse and Keyboard are shown

powercfg -devicequery wake_programmableIntel(R) Ethernet Controller (3) I225-VHID-compliant vendor-defined deviceHID Keyboard DeviceHID-compliant vendor-defined device (001)HID-compliant system controllerHID-compliant consumer control deviceHID-compliant mouse

powercfg -lastwakeWake History Count - 1Wake History [0]Wake Source Count - 0

Scheduled Tasks

• From Windows PoweShell I’ve run the command “Get-ScheduledTask | where {$_.settings.waketorun}” the only tasks listed are

\Microsoft\Windows\InstallService\ -- WakeUpAndContinueUpdates

\Microsoft\Windows\InstallService\ -- WakeUpAndScanForUpdates

\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\ -- Schedule Wake To Work

All have a Disabled state.

What else should I try?

Thanking you in advance for your help, Dave

4. Windows 11 desktop PC - Sleep

Windows 11 does not go to sleep

My Windows 11 desktop does not turn off the screen after the specified time. It also does not go into sleep mode after the specified time. I have tried all the steps suggested in this thread and still not good. I do not have any joy stick or anything like that attached. It used to work that a few months ago it quit. The only thing that happened was routine Windows updates.
