Windows 10: Is Armoury driver updater from Asus good or bad to put on Win11?

I have a Win11 computer with an Asus motherboard. This message came on today asking if I wanted to put the driver updater on my computer. I typically say no to those kinds of things because it's usually just another layer of software and probably spyware to boot, but being as I have an Asus motherboard I thought it might be ok. I called Asus and they said it's good stuff so I put it on the computer. Any other thoughts on it?

OK, I found out how to get rid of it, disable it's Service, etc.

1. Go into the BIOS... Tools > Armoury Crate, and change it from enabled to DISabled. Save & Exit the BIOS.
2. Once back on the Desktop, in the Start Search Box type: Services.msc
3. In the Services window find AsusUpdate Service, double click it and choose: disable
4. The you can remove AsusUpdateCheck.exe from C:\Windows\System32.

Doing this, will mean that you can delete the C:\Asus\SCD\Download folder.

I have done this, and seen no problems as a result. If I were you, I wouldn't do this, unless you make a good backup beforehand. I use Macrium Reflect v7.2 (free) for this. Make sure you also make the Macrium bootable media (USB/CD) before attempting this.




AsusUpdateCheck.exe, seems to have good and bad points.

The good: It constantly checks Asus's website for newer motherboard drivers, and if it finds any... installs them.

Th bad: This program is coded into the BIOS, and w/o the above steps I listed, will just keep coming back. While it will probably never harm you or your comp... it has the ability to do so.

Flashing the BIOS will probably turn Armoury Crate back on, which will regrow AsusUpdateCheck.exe, and start the whole process over again.

The choice ofc is yours. My best guess is that it won't cause any problems, and won't be abused by Asus.

 

Armoury Crate reinstall & Windows 11

I had an issue with Armoury Crate software that controls fan profiles of my ASUS laptop and the only way to install it again was to uninstall AC using ASUS official uninstaller which I duly did. Re-installed and everything worked perfectly. I followed the steps provided by ASUS, (How to Cleanly Uninstall and Reinstall Armoury Crate) and the laptop configuration works like it used to, but I am worried that I shouldn’t have done this and will it affect the smooth operation of Windows 11? Many thanks.

I have checked the reliability checker and can see all the devices and drivers were uninstalled and then reinstalled on restart.

 

Secrets to get ASUS Armoury Crate to run successfully?

Can anyone advise on how to get ASUS Armoury Crate program to run successfully? I just tried to run a newly downloaded version of ASUS Armoury Crate in a Win 10 'scratch' partition (I multi-boot) that I use for testing software. All seemed Ok until A C hung at 55% on the Realtek Audio driver. So I stopped the install, and A C said it was undoing all the installs, but that too hung. I finally had to kill the program with Task Manager. My rig is based on an ASUS ROG Strix-E X670e board. I don't have any ASUS RGB devices, so that isn't an issue. I really wanted this program to work because when I downloaded drivers directly from the ASUS site, the LAN, Wi-Fi, and Audio drives would not install. Fortunately Windows installed some kind of driver for the LAN and Audio, but not for the Wi-FI.
