  1. Urgent: Ensuring OneDrive Safety After Security Breach

I recently encountered a serious security issue with my home computer, which was compromised by malware and viruses around December 2nd to 4th. As a precaution, I wiped my computer clean, reinstalled everything, and set up a new Microsoft account with a new email address. To make sure OneDrive does not download back any infected Yes, I do have 2 step verification long time before this concern happened.I am concerned that some files automatically uploaded to OneDrive might have been infected or corrupted. Could you please guide me on how to ensure that my files on OneDrive are not compromised

    :)

  2. security breach

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per description, you are getting suspicious pop ups on your daughter system.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better:

    • Have you made any significant changes on your system prior to this issue?
    • What is the complete pop up message that you get on your screen?

As per explanation it seems that your system is infected with virus or there is some third party program installed on you system causing the issue.

I would suggest you to follow the method given below and check if that helps.

    Method 1: Microsoft Safety Scanner.
I would suggest you to perform a full system scan using the Microsoft Safety Scanner to eliminate any issues related to virus/malware.

    Microsoft Safety Scanner

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

If issue still persists try method 2,

    Method 2: Perform Clean Boot.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Check this issue in clean boot state.

Refer: How to perform a clean boot in Windows

How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer
    to Normal startup mode.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

  3. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

How do I control the windows files security that OneDrive puts on files uploaded from an android device

    Hi JohnJCAT

    Thanks for getting back.

To further assist you, I suggest that you try these steps here.

    1. Check if the you can open the file online on OneDrive.com?

    2. To control the Windows file security that OneDrive puts on files uploaded from an Android device, you can follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on the "Pictures" folder and select "Properties".
    2. Click on the "Security" tab.
    3. Click on the "Advanced" button.
    4. Check the box that says "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object".
    5. Click "OK" to apply the changes.

This should ensure that the security on the files uploaded from your Android device to OneDrive will inherit the security from the "Pictures" folder on your Windows device.

    Sincerely,
