I am classed as a child on my family acccount but I am now an adult. The email associated with the family organizer no longer exists so how can I be removed from the family account?

  2. How to delete an adult account in the Family Settings.

    Hi,

To resolve your issue, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

    • As an adult in the family account, sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Under Your family, click
      Remove
      .
    • Click the child account you want to remove, and click Remove.
    • You will get an email confirmation once the child has been removed from the family.
Note: If you removed a Child account, it will be tagged as an "Orphaned account" and you will need to attach another "Parent account".

    Regards.

Identifying adult account controlling a child account

I have a premium Office 365 subscription shared with my family. https://account.microsoft.com/family/home lists my three children as expected, but https://account.live.com/mykids.aspx only displays two of the children. The third child (a 13 year old) is missing, despite being in the family group. The only other adult who may have provided the consent for that child account has provided me screen shots showing the missing child is not under their profile either. The child account itself provides no obvious way to identify the associated adult account, and I'm fairly sure my account provided the original consent for that child account in any event. Attempts to manage the child account (eg change details) result in an error stating only the adult who gave permission can manage the child account, but it's impossible to identify which adult account is associated with that child account. Given the child account has an associated XBox Live account with purchased game credits etc I do not want to abandon the account and simply start a new one for that child. I also expect I won't be able to remove the account from my family plan anyway as I am not recorded as the consenting adult for some reason.

Surely there is a way to determine the adult which controls a child account, especially if the child is part of your family group? Alternately how can one "reset" a child account back to an appropriate adult account (ie their legal parent who also pays for their family subscription)?

Identifying adult account controlling a child account

    Hi Bpa77,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you are having trouble locating one of your child accounts in the Microsoft Family Safety settings.

Firstly, I would like to inform you that the Microsoft Family Safety settings are managed through the Microsoft account of the parent or guardian who created the family group. If you are the parent or guardian who created the family group, you should be able to manage all the child accounts associated with the group.

However, in your case, it seems that you are unable to locate one of your child accounts in the Microsoft Family Safety settings. To resolve this issue, I would suggest the following steps:

    1. Sign into your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/family/home using your email address and password.

    2. Click on the "Family members" tab to view the list of family members associated with your account.

    3. Locate the missing child account in the list and click on the "Manage" button next to their name.

    4. If you are prompted to enter a password or provide other verification, do so to proceed.

    5. Once you have accessed the child account settings, check if the account is linked to your Microsoft account or another adult's account. If it is linked to another adult's account, you may need to contact them to manage the account.

    6. If the account is linked to your Microsoft account, you should be able to manage the account settings and make any necessary changes.

If you are still unable to see the child account in your family group, there are a few things you can try:

    1. Make sure that the child account is still active and has not been removed from your family group.

    2. Check to see if the child account is associated with a different Microsoft account than the one you are using to sign in to your family group.

    3. Verify that the child account is signed into the correct Microsoft account.

To determine the adult who controls a child account, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Microsoft Family website and sign in with your Microsoft account.

    2. Click on the "Members" tab.

    3. Look for the child account in question and click on it.

    4. Under the child's name, you should see the name of the adult who is responsible for the account.

Regarding resetting a child account back to an appropriate adult account, you can follow these steps:

    1. Sign into your Microsoft Family group.

    2. Click on the "Members" tab.

    3. Find the child account in question and click on it.

    4. Click on the "Remove from family" button.

    5. Once the child account has been removed from the family group, the legal parent can then add the child back to the family group using their own Microsoft account.

In addition, I would like to provide you with a helpful articles that explains how to manage child accounts in Microsoft Family Safety:

Managing parental consent - Microsoft Support

Microsoft Family Safety - Microsoft Support

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
