Windows 10: Cortana Can't Hear Me

I've just recently had to perform a clean install of Windows 10, as there were some missing components on my machine. Now when I try to talk to Cortana, it says that "Cortana can't hear you without your permission". I'm pretty sure I have the microphone turned on. And yes, I know I'm keeping Windows 10 up to date. What happened, I wonder?

I suggest you enable settings in the Playback Devices and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

• Right click on the speaker icon on your taskbar.
• Select Playback Devices.
• Click on the Playback Devices and right click on the
  Speakers/Headphones.
• Check mark on the Show Disabled Devices and
  Show Disconnected Devices.

If the issue persists the follow the below step.

Step 2:
