Windows 10: PDF and WORD files not showing thumbnails in WINDOWS 11 in ICON view, i do not want to use...

Can someone help resolve this issue for me please? not using ADOBE as I did before and they have stopped thumbnail support for windows! it shows as grey in windows 11. Have power toys but not helping. I cannot see thumbnail previews in Icon View for PDF or WORD, in File View the button is off as well for thumbnail. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

File Explorer - Some PDF's show thumbnail image, some don’t

In Windows 10 File Explorer, I see thumbnails for a few of my pdf files but still see the generic Adobe pdf icon for most of them.

• In Windows 10 folder options, the checkbox for “Always show icons, never thumbnails” is unchecked.
• On the Adobe Reader preferences general tab, “Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Windows Explorer” is checked.
• Adobe Acrobat is set as my default PDF viewer.
• I have used Disk Cleanup to delete all my thumbnails to clear and rebuild the cache, yet the problem persists.

Any suggestions on how I can see all the pdf icons as thumbnails?

PDF thumbnail view

Setting Adobe Viewer as the default viewer for PDFs fixes this issue. OTOH, if you want to retain Edge as the default PDF viewer, you need to use Adobe's thumbnail module. Run the registry fix pdf_thumbnail_adobe.reg in this article. That should do the trick.

Once done, do the following if required.

• Log off and log back into your account, or restart the Explorer shell via Task Manager.
  
• Clear the thumbnail cache using Disk Cleanup.
  

 

Pdf File View in Windows / File Explorer NOT

Dalchina, I'd already done the things in the links you sent me. I use both Bernina and Husqvarna Viking embroidery software programs. Currently, my embroidery files are associated with Bernina. Some of the vp3 files show in file / windows explorer. Some don't show at all, just show the icon for Bernina even though I've disabled show icon not thumbnails, and some show distorted with a black background. My backgrounds are set to white in both programs. I've been using these programs for years. re: PDFs. I have NO idea what may have changed my ability to view pdf thumbnails. Even after clearing the thumbnails cache, they do not regenerate. Acrobat Free Reader is the default viewer. Even if I change it to MS pdf viewer, there are no thumbnails. Once these are 'fixed' I want to learn when an app can hijack view options so that I don't go through this again. I digitize for embroidery for money and REALLY NEED TO SEE THUMBNAILS. Grrrrrr. My thought is that I need to rollback a driver (if I new which one). If you have any more suggestions, thank you. Joanne in NH
