Windows 10: Wsl Ubuntru distro virustotal

Hello,I Installed wsl2 on my windows pc. Downloaded Ubuntu 24.04 LTS using cmd, from official store. It appeared later in microsoft store. After I checked ubuntu 2404.exe on virustotal it showed positive by 2 that it is malitious. Trying other sources like hybrid-analysis showed that this exe is ok. Also Ubuntu showed no issues and updates working as usual. Most likely its false-positive from virustotal. But can I somehow doublecheck it? Like check the hash couldn't find Ubuntu 24.04 LTS hash for wsl on store or maybe some other ways to check it. Just to be sure.

Cannot upgrade installed distros in WSL to version 2

After installing the Win10 2004 build 19041 update (running winver shows "version 2004 (OS build 19041.388)", I've tried to upgrade a couple of installed distros I had in WSL version 1 to WSL version 2 following the instructions at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win.../install-win10. All the steps in the instructions compete successfully, up to the point where I try to change the WSL version of one of the installed distros to 2 at which point I see the messages below:

I have enabled the Virtual Machine Platform feature (it shows as on with a tick against it in Control Panel Windows features), Intel-vt virtualization is enabled in the BIOS, and running msinfo32 shows, at the bottom of the system summary listing:

I also tried installing another distro with the WSL default version set to 2, but attempting to launch it shows the error:

Any suggestions on how to get around this problem? From what I've read, WSL2 gives worthwhile speed increases over WSL1, and so is worth using if I can get it to work.

 

WSL

Version 2 of WSL uses a new lightweight utility virtual machine capability. To enable the lightweight virtual machine and WSL, you need to enable two Windows features: Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Subsystem for Linux.

To enable these features via the user interface (UI), press the Windows key and enter Windows Features, then click on Turn Windows features on or off.
When the Windows Features dialog appears, check the boxes for Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Subsystem for Linux.




If you want to make version 2 the default for any Linux distros you install then run the following command:

Now you can install Linux distro from Microsoft Store it will be running version 2 of WSL.

A distro can be converted between versions of WSL after installation. To achieve this, you use the wsl --set-version command.

This command takes two arguments:

• The name of the distro to update
• The version to convert it to

An example of converting the Ubuntu distro to version 2 is shown here:

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) will not install any Linux Distro

I am using a Windows PC with the following specs:

• Edition: Windows 11 Home
  
• Version: 23H2
  
• OS build: 22631.2338
  
• Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 100.22674.1000.0
  
• Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz
  
• Installed RAM: 16.0 GB
  
• System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  

I have been unable to successfully install any Linux distribution, either via the Microsoft Store or from command prompt. On command prompt (run as admin), the command 'wsl --install -d <distro>' returns the error code "0x80070005". Same for Microsoft Store.

I managed to successfully install Ubuntu by downloading the .AppxBundle file (link from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-manual, specific link https://aka.ms/wslubuntu), but when I try to run it I get the error message:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

I have tried updating the permissions of the root folder ("C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu_2204.1.7.0_x64__79rhkp1fndgsc") to no avail.

I have ensured that the "Windows Subsystem for Linux" and "Virtual Machine Platform" Windows Features are enabled and made sure that the WSL version is set to '2' with the command "wsl --set-default-version 2" in admin command prompt.

I even went into the BIOS settings of my PC ensured that my Intel CPU has the setting for allowing 'virtualisation' enabled.

I'm open to any suggestions.
