  2. hmdi splitter

Jim, I gave you everything there is for how to set up HDMI monitors in Extended display, including the specific ways how to use a splitter to do this.

    More about dock option here:

How do I connect 2 monitors to a computer with only 1 HDMI port? I thought of using an HDMI splitter, but would this be okay? I've heard that using certain equipment can limit whether it's two of the same display or not (using 2 BenQ GL2250HMs). - Quora

Please go back and read each tutorial all the way through so you don't miss anything. If it's not listed there then it is not possible.

I already understand the problem so there is no need to repeat it. If you have any questions about the tutorials I provided please ask back. Once I know you have read and tried everything suggested I may have other suggestions.

  3. Laptop with HDMI splitter

    Dear Dee DR,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about connecting two monitors to your laptop using an HDMI splitter. I understand how important it is for you to have this setup working smoothly.

Based on your description, it seems like you're experiencing difficulty getting the monitors to connect through the HDMI splitter. Let's troubleshoot this together:

    1. Check Compatibility: Ensure that the HDMI splitter you purchased is compatible with your laptop and monitors. Sometimes, compatibility issues can prevent devices from communicating effectively.
    2. Verify Connections: Double-check all connections to make sure everything is securely plugged in. Ensure that both HDMI cables from the monitors are connected to the output ports of the HDMI splitter and that the HDMI splitter's input is connected to your laptop's HDMI port.
    3. Test with Different Setup: If possible, try connecting one monitor directly to your laptop and another through the HDMI splitter to see if both configurations work individually. This can help identify if the issue lies with the splitter or another component. If possible, test with another HDMI splitter to rule out the possibility of a defective splitter.
    4. Check HDMI Cable Quality: Sometimes, using poor quality HDMI cables can lead to connectivity issues. Try using known-working HDMI cables to rule out this possibility.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there might be a compatibility problem with your splitter. Consider contacting the splitter manufacturer’s support for further assistance.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Display Splitter

    HDMI Splitter

Just a splitter will give you the same image on both monitors.
If your computer has a second output like a second hdmi, vga or dmi port
you can try hooking up the second monitor to that to get your second display.

There are usb to hdmi listed but I have never tried them.
