I recently started using some technologies which require admin privileges, and I'm wondering if there's a way to get UAC to default to using Windows Hello instead of prompting me to put in my credentials. If this isn't possible how can I make it the "Yes", "No" prompt.Best Wishes,Jesse Ogunlaja

  2. How to make UAC always default to using Windows Hello Face instead of password

I'm using Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (21H2) on a Surface Pro 7 i7. I used to sign in with a Microsoft account, and decided after some time to switch to Local accounts on all my devices. On my Surface, after switching to a Local account, I had issues where my Microsoft account was still listed in UAC and I could not use my Windows Hello biometrics (fingerprint and face recog.) to elevate. It would say the password was incorrect. For context, I have my local security policy set to always require credentials in UAC, even as an admin.

I switched back to a Microsoft account temporarily and then back to a Local account, which seems to have solved this issue. The problem now is that every time I enter a UAC prompt, it ALWAYS defaults to requesting my full password. Before this debacle, UAC would default to using Windows Hello Face (Surface device). Now, no matter what I try, I cannot get it to stick with the Face recognition and it keeps asking for my password. I have to click "More" to see the Windows Face tile and manually change, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I don't even have the keyboard attached half the time.

I can't for the life of me find any way to tell it to default to using the Face option. I'm near erasing Windows and reinstalling, because I have no clue what suddenly changed its behavior, which was correct from day one. If anyone knows how to tell Windows to always default to the biometric options, the help would be appreciated.

  3. Any way to enable an admin password for UAC in windows 10?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft community.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if this helps:

    • Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button.
    • Then type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings.

    • Do one of the following:
    • To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click
OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.
    • To turn on UAC, move the slider to choose when you want to be notified, and then click
OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

  4. How to make UAC default to Windows Hello instead of username and password

Repairing startup on a W10 machne using a Hello PIN instead of a password

I need to repair the startup of a machine using W10 but all the advanced options offer me the (correct) username but then ask for a password for the account.

I used to use a password to log-in but - as suggested by Microsoft - I changed it to a Windows Hello PIN.

If I try to use the original password it isn't accepted and there doesn't appear to be any way to offer a Hello PIN instead.

Could anyone offer any suggestions please ?
