  1. How to handle "File is currently used by another process" error when trying to add a footer...

I have developed a C# script that monitors newly created files with specific extensions such as .pdf, .docx, and .xlsx using FileSystemWatcher. When a new file is detected, I want to trigger a dialog that allows the user to classify the file and add a footer to the document. However, I am encountering an issue when I try to add a footer to a Word file .docx that is currently open. Specifically, I receive the error "File is currently used by another process" when trying to save the file after modifying it, because the document is locked by Word while it is open. What i have tried so farUsing

  2. PowerPoint Footer

Hi Gloria, I hope this message finds you well. My name is Steven and I'm an independent advisor.

I suggest you trying the following steps:

    Open View, then Slide Master

Scroll the thumbnail list on the left to locate the larger slide master at the top.

Edit the footer on the slide master.

Use the smaller thumbnails below to visit each slide layout. When you are there, uncheck and then recheck Slide Master > Master Layout > Footers. You will see the footer that disappears and appears again with the multiline formatting.

Then open each slide to change it to a different layout. After that, change it back again. You will see the footer that appears in a multiline format. The Reset button will not help you.

If the steps above don’t help you, inheritance is broken in your presentation. This might occur when a presentation is built backward. If it happened, please do the multiline footer with a VBA macro.

Error: No work available to process

Hmm. Either it's put out errors and WCG is limiting the work units available, or the project list may not be set to supply other WU when one runs out. (if the problem lies here and not on your end)

On the options to your left, if you go into Results Status, select the computer from Device Name and then look through results see if either they were returned late, errors or any other kind of issue that would stop the servers supplying WU from that perspective.

If there are no errors then it's maybe down to your project list. So selecting Device Manager from the left menu and then clicking on the profile assigned to that computer and make sure that it's assigned to receive WU for other projects if they run out.

At least those steps will rule out problems from the WCG end.

Windows 10 hosts file used by another process

I need to edit my hosts file but the previous methods I used on windows 8 or 7 will not work.

    • I have set the permission for the "hosts" file to full access for the current user. I have even taken the ownership. Current user is in Administrators group.

    • I have turned off UAC.

    • I have removed read only permission from the file.

    • I have disabled my Panada Antivirus. I have also stopped 3 panda services from Services palette (heck, I even uninstalled panda but no use).

    • I open an elevated Command Line (run as Administrator). Run Notepad and change the file. When I try to save the file I receive the following error:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

    • I check the file using "Unlocker" and the software says there is no active lock on the file. I again checked with Sysinternals Process explorer and even that cannot find a handle to the hosts file.

    Can anyone help?

Please no "canned" response from community contributors and I am aware of the risks! of editing system files and setting a looser permission on this file!
