Windows 10: Why the hell will onedrive overwrite a steam game file from a previous date without your...

I fresh installed windows 10 and onedrive started syncing and just erased my Nier save file from steam. It restored it from a previous date with only an hour played and I just lost 20 hours worth of progress. Now I can't find the game file worth that progress it just overwrote the game file. How can a company this big create such a stupid system like this?

Hi Greg,

Thanks for helping out so quickly. It's taken a couple of days to go through those steps because each time (first unlink-relink, then reinstalling OneDrive) has required it to compare 50k+ files to get back in sync.

Anyway, now completed and the same problem is still happening - it uploads the updated file, then a minute later downloads and overwrites with the previous version. I'm on the latest Windows release (I think - 1903) and OneDrive. Let me know if you need
any more info from me (eg screen recording) and I welcome your further thoughts.

onedrive is overwriting local file with cloud file

I have a chat app that stores its history in a database, which is located in some folder that managed by onedrive. but a couple of days ago, onedrive have had some issues with syncing, today I reset it (via onedrive.exe /reset), then it started syncing files.

after reset, onedrive starts to download the database, the cloud database file is uploaded days ago, but onedrive just download and overwrited the local file, that is how I lost my recent chat history.

Why doesn't onedrive compare the modification dates of cloud files and local files and then use the latest file?

This process can help restore corrupted game installation files. Here's how:

• Find the game, and then click on Advanced options.
  
• Click Reset.
• Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Make sure that you are using an administrator account to launch the app. If you are still experiencing the same issue, remove the
ClientRegistry.blob file by following the steps below:

• Close the Steam Client and go to the Steam root folder or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
• Look for the ClientRegistry.blob file.
• Make a copy of the file and change it to a different file name. (for example, copy.ClientRegistry.blog)
• Delete the original file.
• Launch the Steam Client and run your game again.

If the issue persists, you may relocate the Steam Client by performing the steps below:

• Close the Steam Client app and go to the Steam installation folder.
• Browse for the installation files that you would like to move.
• Delete all of the files inside that folder except the SteamApps & Userdata and Steam.exe.
• You may cut and paste the whole Steam installation folder to a default storage location on your PC.
• Launch the app again and make sure to log in using your account.

After signing in, you'll need to change the default installation path for the games that you will install in the future. Here's how:

• Launch the Steam Client and go to the Settings
  menu.Select Steam Library Folders from the

• You may create a new path by selecting Add Library Folder. All future installations will go directly to the newly created path.
• Right-click on the newly created path and make sure that it is set to default.
