Windows 10: Want to Connect 2 Win 10 PCs over Wi-Fi to share files. They do not recognize each other.

This is mainly about my wife’s and my Windows 10 PCs and trying to get them to recognize each other over our apartment Wi-Fi. The purpose of that is so they can back each other up. We used to do that in our old home using Windows 7, and early versions of Windows 10. After a version update in Windows 10, while still in our old home, the PCs no longer recognized each other. A frequent error message was lack of permission. On my PC, because of failed attempts at setting up communication between the 2 PCs, I have multiple Windows accounts on the PC in different names. PC connection issue (Wi-Fi)

I have 2 PCs hooked up, both running Windows 10. My PC in the living room is connected directly to the cable modem and I am using a portable Wi-Fi adapter (Netgear Genie) for my PC in the bedroom. Everything was working fine until a few days ago when I lost my Wi-Fi signal in the bedroom. The Wi-Fi icon disappeared from the taskbar. So I thought it may be the adapter. So I moved the PC into the living room and connected it directly. Well....nothing. There is still no signal. The wi-fi in my house is still active because I'm able to use my cell phone and tablet. So...any suggestions? If what I wrote is unclear let me know. Thanks.

Unable to share files between 2 PCs over a Wi-Fi network

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that you are unable to share files between two PCs on Wi-Fi network. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



Ideally, if you are sharing files over Wi-Fi, we need to set the Wi-Fi network as Private. When you set a network as Private, your PC is discoverable to other devices on the network, and you can use your PC for file and printer sharing.



To change the Wi-Fi network to Private, refer the steps mentioned in the article

Make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows 10.

Windows 10 doesn't recognize my Android phone on Wi-Fi direct

Further more investigation show that while it hangs installing the device it probably looks for a direct Wi-Fi connection , when I go to wireless networks it shows me the direct connection name , The problem is I don't know the password *Rolleyes (maybe it's the pin number I supposed to get? so the module could be bugged in the Android cellphone - customized ROM).
I tried the 8 chars at end of connection name (SSID) X360PPD9 but it's not the password.
Any suggestions ?
