The time settings on my Surface Laptop Studio running Windows 11 v24H2 are severely messed up. My settings were already configured to automatically set timezone and time. The timezone is always automatically set correctly but the time for the timezone is always off by +1hr. This issue has happened as I have travelled across multiple timezones this past week. On top of this, I am unable to sync with any internet time server to help correct the time for the timezone. Anytime I try to sync it fails with the error "Time synchronization failed. I am having issues with syncronizing the windows time, it comes up with a "time synchronization failed please check network connectivity and retry" message.

Have checked/tried:

Windows Time service is running and set to automatic

Tried other time servers, for instance pool.ntp.org, time.nist.gov

Tried "Use command prompt to force time sync", ended up with "The computer did not resync because no time data was available."

SFC /scannow returned no issues

Suggestions?

I'm having a similar issue (no Ubuntu in the equation though). Looked at a variety of resources, such as Time Synchronization Failed on Windows 11: 9 Ways to Fix it (windowsreport.com), but still get the error when trying to click "Sync Now", and get a timeout any time I try to update the server between the windows one, the NIST one, and adding the Google one. Here's my OS information:

You can check your time zone settings: Verify that your time zone settings are correct both in Windows and Ubuntu.

A mismatched time zone can cause time synchronization issues.

Try to use a different time-server: Try using a different time-server, such as pool.ntp.org, to see if that resolves the issue.

If none of the above steps work,

you can try to disable time synchronization in Ubuntu: you can try disabling time synchronization in Ubuntu altogether. To do this, run the following command in Ubuntu: sudo timedatectl set-ntp false.

Then, try synchronizing the time in Windows again.

Check for dual-boot issues: Dual-booting can sometimes cause time synchronization issues. You may want to try disabling time synchronization in both Windows and Ubuntu and setting the time manually in both operating systems.
