Windows 10: How do I stop Windows 11 download that is in progress

I started downloading Windows 11 today and then I realized I had another year before Windows 10 wouldn't be supported. Now the download in 56% complete. I paused it for 7 days but what I really want to do is stop it completely until next year. I am not very computer savvy so please give simple instructions.

1. In Windows 10 Start menu search bar, you need to type Services and when the same desktop application appear in the search results click to open it.

2. In Services window, you will find out the list of all the services running in the background. You need to scroll down until you find Windows Update service.

3. Here you need to the right click on the Windows Update and from the context menu select Stop. Alternatively, you can click on Stop link available under Windows Update option on the top left side of the window.

Once the Windows Update service is stopped by you manually, this will also prevent Windows 10 Update in progress until you restart the download process again or reboot the system.

To stop the download, uninstall the KB3035583 update (under "Control Panel > Windows Update > Installed Updates").


To get rid of the C:\$Windows.~BT folder:

• Right-click on your C: drive.
• Select "Properties".
• Click on [ Disk Cleanup ]
• After the initial scan: If you have a [ Clean up system files ] button, click it and wait for the second scan to finish.
• Scroll down the list and look for "Temporary Windows installation files" (its size should be in the gigabytes range); check the box.
• Click on [ OK ] to start the clean-up.
