Windows 10: Why does the background of my desktop completely freeze after rick-clicking on certain...

When I'm on my regular desktop screen with all the apps and stuff that are on there, sometimes I might want to rename an application/folder, and to do that I need to right-click on it. In my particular case, I wanted to view/edit the properties of a game I had installed. Upon doing that my screen froze the desktop background and I couldn't click on any other icons. I could still access the icons on my taskbar including the search widget. But the application I right-clicked on is highlighted in a light grey box around it, and my desktop background is frozen. Lost desktop background

I did a Search & Distroy spyware scan the other day, and one of the suggested "fixes" said something about removing Active Desktop. Like the muppet I am I clicked yes and am now without a desktop background picture.

Does anyone have an idea how to reverse this? If I try to select a picture it's simply not added as a background.

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows Logo Key + I. Then click on Personalization.
• Click on Background to change it.

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open Desktop Background by right clicking on the desktop clicking Personalization
  
• 
  Click the picture or color that you want to use for your desktop background.
  
• 
  If the picture you want to use isn't in the list of desktop background pictures, click an item in the Picture location list to see other categories, or click Browse to search for the picture on your computer.
  When you find the picture that you want, double-click it. It will become your desktop background.
