Windows 10: ADPCM codecs and Windows Media

How can I add the IMA ADPCM codec to Windows Mobile Media Player?

A lot of folks have phone systems that push wav file messages to their email. These typically use a codec called IMA ADPCM.

Natively, the Windows Mobile Windows Media Player does not recognize this format. The standard response to this problem in other forums has been, "don't use Windows Media Player, use a third party player like Core Player (TCPMP)." I'd rather get Windows Media
player working fully rather than simply abandoning it for this lack of single codec.

However, I have not been able to find any instructions on:

1. where to find the IMA ADPCM codec that would be compatible with Windows Media Player in WM 6.1

2. how to install a codec to Windows Media Player

Can you provide some advice and direction in this area?

Step I:




Make sure that's the exact version (or higher) of MPEG Audio codec you have installed. If not, google "K-Lite CODEC pack", install it with the "MP3 Fraunhofer .acm" option enabled during install. Remove the older codec from the list of installed audio codecs. Set your new MPEG audio codec priority to 3 (keep 2 and one for ADPCM, etc., recommended). Use Windows Media Player 11. Get surprised at the improved MP3 output quality, especially with VBR files.
