Windows 10: Can you help re- start my word files? Why am I getting an error indication?

I can't get into my word files, which I desperately need for work. I keep getting error notice asking me if I would like it to be repaired. I agree and hit the link. So far, still not working. Pls help. Thanks. George *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

I have a lot of ms word files on my pc. But one of them showed me an error - Getting unknown error messages while opening (.doc) or (.docx) files. I don't know how to open my word file or repair microsoft word. Any suggestions, guys, please.

With which program are you facing this issue?

IF it is Microsoft Word then follow the steps below.

Step 1

Click the "File" button at the top-left of the window. A pane opens on the left side of Word.

Step 2
Click "Options" at the bottom of the "File" pane. A pop-up "Word Options" window opens.

Step 3

Click the "Display" button on the top-left side of the "Word Options" window.

Step 4
Click the box next to "Paragraph marks" to remove the check from the box.

Is it just one file, or all your word files?

With the exception of Outlook, I have yet to find a reason to stop using Office 2000, 2003, and 2007. They open all the latest files just fine, and they work just fine.
