Windows 10: How do i set mailto links to be copied to clipboard?

I have tested multiple extensions on both Edge and Chrome, but nothing seems to work for me. The email addresses I need to copy is in some sort of modal window, and none of the extensions won't work. I deal with numerous email addresses daily, and I am tired of having to right-click and choose from the dropdown list. Maybe there is an easy way to do this in regedit? I will be extremely happy if someone got a solution to this.

Mailto: in Browsers not working


Hi, I have installed Pegasus mail, and during the installation, accepted the option to set it as the default mailto client.
I also set it as the default from an Open with prompt.

I can confirm that clicking on email links opens Pegasus, and that the mailto entry as per my screenshot shows Pegasus.

I installed Pegasus at a custom location (in the same folder as Thunderbird's installation folder).

So there appears to be no fundamental conflict with Win 10.

This might suggest some other issue with yours which is affecting mailto. You mentioned you have noticed some other problems- could you list them or suggest any that could possibly be related?

 

Windows 11: Set e-mail program for mailto links

Hi.

I cannot set Thundbird as the default program for opening MAILTO links (e.g. found on websites). I tried the guide linked below, but Thunderbird just does not show up on the list. It does show up on the general list of installed apps. It just does not show on the list for links. And of course Windows 11 is too smart as to allow me to browse for an .exe file.

Correct! And you won't be able to, either.

mailto: is a special type of link in a web page. When you click on a mailto: link, your web browser checks to see if it has a 'handler' for that link. In the case of my Chrome browser, my mailto: handler is GMail. When I click on a mailto: link, it opens in GMail. (If I don't specify a mailto: handler, nothing will happen when I click on a mailto: link.)

The mailto: handler has to be an app that your browser can find on the internet - like GMail. It can't be an app that you installed on your computer - like Thunderbird. If you could make Thunderbird your browser's mailto: handler, and you're not using the computer where Thunderbird is installed, you can't open mailto: links.

Because Thunderbird is installed on your computer, it can be the default email app when you want to send mail from your computer. Gmail can't send mail from your computer, because GMail is a web page and can only be accessed through a browser.

To summarize: the mailto: handler (like GMail) sends mail from a web page, and a default email program (like Thunderbird) sends mail from your computer.
